User Help: Running our Software Products under Microsoft Access 2007

Service Packs

MS Access 2007 has some significant bugs that are fixed via Service Pack 1.

It is important that you install Service Pack 1 (the only one released at the date of writing this - 20 Nov 2008).

For help with determining which service packs are installed please click here.

Remaining Bugs

Even after the application of Service Pack 1 there is one bug (or at least what we assume to be a bug) that affects the use of our products:

Within our products it is normal to see a list of currently open forms and reports when you click on Window on the menubar. At the time of writing (20 November 2008), this list does not appear in MS Access 2007. We assume this is a bug but have not confirmed this with Microsoft. The only workaround you have is to run at a sufficiently high screen resolution (1024 x 768 is suggested) so that you can lay forms and reports out around the screen and then go to a required one by clicking on it.

Security Issues and Trusted Locations

MS Access 2007 has a security feature which affects our products during startup (for normal use) - and also during installation.

By default MS Access 2007 interrupts startup to display a warning message when the application being opened is not digitally signed (which our products are not). Since the applications are opened during installation this also interrupts installation. When the appropriate button on the warning dialog is clicked the startup (and installation when startup is for the purpose of installation) resumes.

You cannot avoid the warning message during installation but you can add a setting AFTER installation has been completed so that the warning message does not appear every time you start an application. For instructions on how to do this please click here.
