The sections below explain the licence options available for the At Work SoftwareTM range, and for Training ProviderTM.
The Pricing page details the costs for each program and each licence option.
Number of Users, Locations, Network Topology
There are three licence options in relation to number of users, their locations, and the network topology:
- Single-User (Standalone Computer, or LAN)
- Multi-User LAN
- Multi-User WAN.
Definitions
These are the definitions as they are used in relation to the Licences discussed here.
Standalone Computer: a computer that is not part of a network.
LAN (Local Area Network): a computer network system connecting multiple computers located within one geographically contiguous site.
WAN (Wide Area Network): a computer network system connecting multiple computers located at two or more geographically separate sites.
(Please note: It has been drawn to our attention that a thin client network, implemented via say Citrix or Terminal Services, is sometimes referred to as a LAN rather than a WAN. In the context of our licencing and pricing structure, a LAN does not extend beyond the geographic boundaries of a single geographically contiguous site. It would be unusual for a LAN licence to be applicable when software is being deployed via Terminal Services or a thin-client system like Citrix. If you are unclear of the meaning of this, please make contact).
Licence Rules - User Numbers and Locations
A Single-User Licence permits:
- the software to be installed on a single standalone computer, or on any number of computers connected by a single LAN;
- the software to be in use by only one person at any one time (ie multiple users must not simultaneously use the program);
- only one live copy of the data-file to be installed on the standalone computer or LAN (ie all users on a LAN are connected to the same file of data).
A Multi-User LAN Licence permits:
- the software to be installed on any number of computers connected by a single LAN;
- the software to be in simultaneous use on any number of computers connected by the single LAN;
- only one live copy of the data-file to be installed on the LAN (ie all users on the LAN are connected to the same file of data).
A Multi-User WAN Licence permits:
- the software to be installed on any number of computers connected by a single WAN;
- the software to be in simultaneous use on any number of computers connected by the single WAN;
- only one live copy of the data-file to be installed on the WAN (ie all users on the WAN are connected to the same file of data).
Note: The conditions pertaining to a Single-User licence are more flexible than in the past. Previously a Single User Licence permitted installation on just a single computer, though multiple persons could use the program on that one computer.
Licence Rules - Perpetual Licences
A Perpetual Licence:
- does not expire;
- comes with 12 months Maintenance from the date of the initial purchase;
- permits you to use the software only while Maintenance is current;
- is suspended if Maintenance Fees are outstanding (and is reinstated when outstanding Maintenance Fees are paid);
- is not transferable (to a different legal entity) without the permission of Risk Software Pty Ltd;
- allows backup copies of your data to be retained even if the licence is suspended.
Licence Rules - 12 Month Fixed-Term Licences
A 12 Month Fixed-Term Licence:
- expires at the conclusion of the period to which it applies;
- includes Maintenance for the term of the licence;
- is not transferable (to a different legal entity) without the permission of Risk Software Pty Ltd;
- allows backup copies of your data to be retained when the licence expires.
When a 12 Month Fixed-Term Licence expires you can take out another Fixed-Term Licence, or a Perpetual Licence. In each case you can continue to use your existing accumulated data.
Licence Rules - Trial Licences
A Trial Licence:
- expires at the conclusion of the 60 day period to which it applies;
- includes Maintenance for the term of the licence;
- is not transferable (to a different legal entity) without the permission of Risk Software Pty Ltd.
- requires you to fully delete the software (including any backups) from your systems within 7 days of the conclusion of the Trial if the Trial Licence is not upgraded to a Perpetual or 12 Month Fixed-Term Licence.
If a Trial Licence is upgraded to a Perpetual or 12 Month Fixed-Term Licence during the 60 day Trial, the cost of the Trial Licence is deducted from the cost of the Perpetual or 12 Month Fixed-Term Licence.
Data stored during the Trial can be preserved when the Trial Licence is upgraded to a Perpetual or 12 Month Fixed-Term Licence.
Additional Laptop Licence
In addition to the Licence Rules described above, all licences permit one copy of the software, including the data-file, to be installed onto a laptop disconnected from the network, so that data can be used while away from the premises at which the software is normally used.
However, only ONE of the data-file copies can be used for data-entry at any time. If the data-file is placed on a laptop, and data-entry is to be performed on the laptop, then data-entry on the network must cease, and the entire data-file must be copied back to the network (from the laptop) before data-entry resumes on the network. ie There is currently no mechanism to synchronise multiple data files.
Wide Area Network Issues
Although MS-Access may not be the ideal choice for a Wide Area Network, it is nevertheless very cost-effective when compared with client-server systems (such as SQL Server). Several of our clients have successfully installed our products for multi-user operation across a WAN via thin-client technology (such as Citrix).
Maintenance
All licences for our software products include a Maintenance component.
For software obtained via a Perpetual Licence:
- an annual Maintenance Fee must be paid to keep Maintenance current;
- a separate Maintenance Fee is not charged for the first 12 months (it is included in the initial purchase price);
- if the Maintenance Fee for a particular period is not paid, the licence is suspended (but can be reinstated by paying any Maintenance Fees owing).
For software obtained via a 12 Month Fixed Term Licence, or a Trial Licence:
- Maintenance is provided for in the Licence Fee (there is not a separate Maintenance Fee).
Under the Maintenance arrangement you receive the following:
- full use of the software;
- support, in the use of the built-in features of the software, via telephone and email;
- new versions of the software as they become available;
- tools to migrate your existing data from old versions to new versions.
Telephone support is currently provided during Western Australian business hours. (If you are outside Western Australia please don't consider this a disincentive to use our software because the demand for telephone support is very low due to the comprehensive help system and the user-friendliness of the software).
The method of delivery of the software is at Risk Software Pty Ltd's discretion. It will usually be via a download from this website.
