At Work Software Range
Topic Feature: Risk
|
Topic Feature Objectives
The objective of each Topic Feature page is to summarise the extent to which the At Work SoftwareTM range caters to a particular field of activity - and to tell you which of the programs in the At Work SoftwareTM range provide this.
Your Alternatives
Quality At Work® is the full system so it naturally includes all the features detailed here.
Risk At Work®, OHS At WorkTM and HSE At WorkTM
also provide all the features detailed here.
|
Specifics
This topic discusses risk - and it's
relationship to hazards, threats, work tasks and substances/mixtures.
The At Work SoftwareTM range provides everything you need to manage risk - whether it is general business risk (eg related to stockmarket volatility), health and safety risk (eg related to work practices), environment risk (eg due to the use of toxic chemicals), or any other type of risk.
You can define your own risk categories - such as
Reputation, Finances, Production, Health & Safety, Environment, etc (as many as you like). You can also specify: your own risk consequences within each risk category, your own likelihoods, and your own matrices of risk level.
So there is complete configurability to manage all types of risk.
In the At Work SoftwareTM range
you can record risk analyses and assessments separately against hazards,
threats, work tasks and substances/mixtures.
Although the term "hazard" is more common in the health and safety field it is not necessary to limit it to this.
The present of toxic chemicals is potentially hazardous to humans, to
creatures, and generally to the environment.
To try to make a distinction between hazard and
threat we might say that a threat is the potential for
an unintended occurrence, whereas a hazard is something that has been identified as
physically existing. An example will explain this better. An electrical extension cord left on the floor when it is no longer in use is a
hazard. It should have been put away. The POTENTIAL for workplace procedures to be ignored is a
threat - and if someone ignores these procedures then a hazard may arise (such
as an unattended electrical cord) - and this may lead to an accident, incident or unplanned event.
Another way to distinguish hazards and threats is to say that
hazards may need once-off corrective actions
(eg putting away the electrical cord that was spotted), whereas threats may need ongoing controls to avoid the occurrence of
hazards and to avoid, or minimise the impact of, unplanned events.
The At Work SoftwareTM range gives you the flexiblity to handle hazards and
threats separately - each in the most appropriate way. The potential
consequences of each hazard or threat can be specified, and risk
analyses and assessments can be performed.
Controls can be defined - as well as reminders
for future reviews.
In addition to conducting risk assessments of
hazards and threats you may wish to conduct them on individual work
tasks and on substances/mixtures. The software allows you to do this -
in exactly the same way as with hazards and threats. (There is great
consistency throughout the software).
Because you will review and repeat risk
assessments at intervals the software allows you to keep all the
previous analysis and assessment data when you record the latest
assessment. (So you can readily see the success or otherwise of the
controls you put in place).
Various viewers and reports allow you to
examine your risk data and present it in various ways (eg a Top Risks
view).
The help system within the software provides
further discussion of risk - as you can see if you have a FREE 21 Day Evaluation.

In the following tables, the columns on the right show you which of the packages (in addition to Quality At Work®) include the particular data. (In the header row of each table, "Rsk?" means "Is this aspect in Risk At Work®". Similarly, "OHS" refers to OHS At WorkTM, "HSE" to HSE At WorkTM, and "L&D" to L&D At WorkTM).
The tables are grouped under the same Data Categories that are used by the software to aid navigation between segments of the program.
